Making Story Sticks and Telling Stories

We had a lovely time at forest school last Tuesday making story sticks. When the children had finished, they used their story sticks to help them to tell their own stories to the rest of the class. Beautiful sticks everyone and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your exciting and original stories! Here are some photos for you to enjoy:

A Class Poem- If I Had Wings

We started our week’s topic of poetry this morning with a reading of the poem ‘If I had wings’, by Pie Corbett. The children were very excited about the idea of being able to fly and chose to write their own version of the poem. The children asked me if I could share (with you) the class poem that they wrote in English this morning. They were (quite rightfully) very proud of the poem that they worked together to create:

If I Had Wings…

If I had wings…

I could soar through the sky and eat up high. (Annie-Rose)

I would dance on the clouds and fly to Africa. (Lucas)

If I had wings…

I would fly up into space and have a picnic on the bright moon. (Alaya)

I would soar up in the sky and swoop through white, puffy clouds. (Alaya)

If I had wings…

I would be a bird and fly to Disney Land and enjoy myself. (Rosa)

I would fly in the sky; find some friends and I would go to Lego Land. (Oliver)

If I had wings…

I would glide and soar to the beautiful, blue sky. (Elodie)

I could fly to Kenya and glide with a zebra. (Elizabeth)

If I had wings…

I would fly to Wales and see my family. (Phoebe)

I would soar to my cousin’s house and swoop up to take a bite out of a fluffy cloud. (Sam)

I wish I could fly. (George)

Inventing a Chocolate Bar on Roald Dahl Day

Year 2 chose Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our focus on Roald Dahl Day last Friday. Of course, it was the chocolate that they were interested in! Year 2 became scientists for the day and designed and made their own chocolate lolly. After deciding which ingredients they would like, the children measured and mixed their recipe and left it to set in the fridge. The classroom smelled delicious all day (I think the melted chocolate and peppermint oil were the pervasive scents).
