At the culmination of our topic on famous people, Today Year 2 launched their rockets on the school field. We have learned about famous people in the sciences, arts, sports, politics, maths and history. In recent weeks in history we have compared the explorations of Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. The children loved learning about the Moon Landing and a little about what it is like to live on the space station!
Year 2 were very excited when our space food was delivered. We tasted the freeze-dried strawberries, raspberries and blueberries straight away and had the apple and astronaut ice cream sandwich today. There was no contest, the clear favourite was the ice cream sandwich! The children used all their senses and used a range of adjectives and descriptive language to describe their samples. They even insisted that I re-hydrate some of the apple pieces in a pot of water to see what would happen! Good scientific questioning, Year 2.
Today, Key Stage One went for a walk to the local library. We looked at many things on the walk into town, learning about the types of houses and homes that people in our area live in. We also stopped to notice the snowdrops and daffodils that are just coming into flower. When we reached the town, we stopped by the train station for a quick snack and drink. We waved at many trains that passed! Next, we walked down to Bexhill library and spent some time looking around at the different types of books. Everyone chose a book to bring back to school. After a quick story time, we caught the bus back up the hill and arrived back at the prep school in time for lunch.
